Tomorrow and Tommorow and Tommorow

Resident Artists Show 2016-2017

Mili Dunn Weiss Gallery

Cheltenham Center for the Arts

May 21st-June 10th

In the world of the 24 hour news cycle, media billboards, and continuous barrage of visual stimuli, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow is time suspended. Referencing both Manet’s Le Dejeuner sur l’herbe, and Shakespeare’s Macbeth, we encounter an ominously still picnic scene, where the only movement is the sound of nightingales and ravens. The forms exemplify the state of being in between different worlds, both those real and those imagined.

MAY 6- MAY 29

Twenty artists, 8 States, 7 Weeks, 77 pieces of art, and one United States Post Office...

In late 2015, Bailey Chick and Abby Daleki, two masters of fine arts students at the University of Delaware, wondered what would happen if they recruited students around the country to answer several questions regarding the nature of art and artists: Can art be collaborative even when the artists have never met, or even spoken to each other? How much does proximity matter? And when collaboration happens step-by-step, how does it influence each artist’s mark? And, lastly, if artists are given free reign, confined only by the size of the piece and what can be mailed, what happens to each piece, and the project as a whole as time goes by?

In the end, seventy-seven unique pieces were created—each one reflecting the life, emotional state, technique, talent, geography, and opinion of each artist—and the group as a whole.
